October to April is generally the better window for a Meghalaya tour, as there are clearer skies, easier road conditions, and viewpoints like Laitlum Canyon that actually deliver the view you’re hoping for. Winter, from November to February, brings cooler evenings, so pack accordingly.
Monsoon season, roughly June to September, is a different trip altogether. This is when the waterfalls run at full strength. Nohkalikai and Seven Sisters look genuinely different with the extra volume, but you’ll also deal with heavier rain and occasional landslide-related delays on the hill roads, and reduced visibility at higher viewpoints. Some travellers choose this season specifically for the waterfalls despite the trade-offs. If you’re set on the root bridge treks and a clear day at Dawki, the shoulder months, March–April or September–October, usually offer the best balance, with most of the rain gone but the greenery still intact.

Guwahati–Kaziranga
If you're short on time or landing straight into Guwahati, this is more an Assam–Meghalaya warm-up than a full Meghalaya trip. Kaziranga's safari circuits plus a look at Guwahati city. It works well before a longer Meghalaya leg or as a standalone short break if wildlife is the main draw. Starts around ₹23,500 per person.
Kaziranga–Shillong
Four days is tight for Meghalaya proper but workable if Shillong and one or two nearby stops are the goal. This route pairs a Kaziranga safari with a short Shillong stay. This is a reasonable option if you want a taste of both hills and grassland without committing a full week. Starts around ₹32,500 per person.
Meghalaya Tour Package: 4 Nights, 5 Days
This is the one most people ask for by name, and for good reason. Five days is enough to cover Shillong, Cherrapunji, Dawki, and Mawlynnong without spending more time in the car than at the places you actually came to see. The usual version starts in Guwahati, moves up to Shillong, spends a day around Cherrapunji's waterfalls and caves, drives down to Dawki for the river, and swings past Mawlynnong on the way back. We also run a variant that adds Kaziranga to the same five days for travellers who'd rather combine the safari with the hills instead of doing them as two separate trips. The standard 4N/5D Meghalaya tour package starts around ₹37,500 per person; the version with Kaziranga runs closer to ₹41,500.
5N/6D and 6N/7D Packages
Add a night or two to the 4N/5D route and you get more breathing room, including an extra stop in Jowai, or simply less driving packed into each day. Six or seven days is usually enough to stop feeling rushed between destinations, which matters more in Meghalaya than it does on flatter terrain elsewhere in India. These run from around ₹44,500 to ₹57,500 per person depending on the exact route and hotel category.
7N/8D and 9N/10D Packages
At this length, you're not just covering the standard circuit; there's also room for Mawphalang's sacred grove, a longer stay around Jowai, or simply slower mornings instead of back-to-back sightseeing. These longer Meghalaya tour and travel packages suit repeat visitors who want to go further off the main road, as well as first-timers who'd rather not rush any of it. A short 2N/3D Guwahati–Kaziranga trip sits at the lower end; a full 9N/10D circuit covering most of the state sits at the top.
The 4-night, 5-day Meghalaya tour package, our most frequently booked option, starts at around ₹37,500 per person for the standard Shillong–Cherrapunji–Dawki–Mawlynnong route, or close to ₹41,500 if Kaziranga is added to the same five days.
A few things move the price up or down: the season you’re travelling in (peak months cost more for hotels), whether you’re splitting a private vehicle across a group or travelling as a couple, and how many extra stops or activities get added along the way. Getting to Meghalaya
Guwahati’s airport is the usual entry point for a Meghalaya trip. It’s roughly a three-hour drive to Shillong from there, longer if you’re heading straight to Cherrapunji or Dawki. Guwahati is also well connected by train from most major Indian cities, which works out cheaper than flying if you don’t mind the extra travel time. We arrange the airport or station pickup as part of the package, so there’s no need to sort a separate cab for that first leg.

Is the living root bridge trek difficult?
The trek to the double-decker root bridge near Nongriat involves a steep descent and an equally steep climb back up, over several thousand steps. It’s manageable for reasonably fit travellers but not ideal for young children or anyone with knee problems.
What should I pack for a Meghalaya trip?
Layers, since evenings get cool even outside winter; a rain jacket if travelling between June and September; and sturdy, grippy shoes for the root bridge treks and cave visits.
